This month before the Chapter takes a break for summer vacation, I am giving you two (2) books to pick up and devour. Both books have one thing in common: their author – Charles Duhigg.

The Power of Habit and Smarter, Faster, Better

In our first book: Habits are a choice that we deliberately make at some point and then stop thinking about it but continue doing, often every day. Charles Duhigg, the author of this book examines why some people and organizations struggle to change while others seem to rediscover themselves by building a compelling argument around the power of habits.

In Smarter Faster Better, Charles Duhigg sets the table: Various advances in communications and technology are supposed to make our lives easier. “Instead, they often seem to fill our days with more work and stress. In part, that’s because we’ve been paying attention to the wrong innovations. We’ve been staring at the tools of productivity — the gadgets and apps and complicated filing systems for keeping track of various to-do lists — rather than the lessons those technologies are trying to teach us…This book is about how to recognize the choices that fuel true productivity…This is a book about how to become smarter, faster, and better at everything you do.”

Both these books will cater to those of you looking for ways to become more productive without having to really re-invent yourself overnight. Habits have a great way of creeping up on us.

One final thing – if you enjoy Charles’ books do a bit of research as he has written a lot of articles that can add to your understanding. As well, if you are a podcast lover, Jay Shetty in his podcast series “On Purpose” has one with Charles (episode 331) as a contributor which is really eye-opening.
